He Said/She Said: Equal, but different in our approach to God. A joint presentation by Mike & Lori sharing their journey toward a shared spirituality and a live in Ministry.
The New Old Evangelization. A Discussion of the “new evangelization” as the essential mission of the Church, with emphasis on the Church’s call to and empowerment of the laity in spreading the Gospel.
The Good Catholic Man. This talk challenges men to embrace their deepest identity – that of a beloved son of God. It promotes an authentic, masculine spirituality that flows from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The talk challenges men to truly be men – as God intended – not as misrepresented by a warped secular society. It suggests the implementation of “plan of life” which promotes personal holiness and peace and the sanctification of family and friends.
Prayer – Him, Me, We. In seeking to foster a better understanding of and love for prayer, this talk takes the audience right to the heart of authentic Christian prayer – its divine origin, its identity and its goal. This talk is not an intellectual discussion of the history of prayer. Nor is it a “commercial” for any particular school of spirituality. Rather, the goal of this talk is to help Christians to know and love God better through a deeper understanding of prayer.
The Ten Commandments: Written in stone, Chiseled in our Hearts. This talk begins with a discussion of the Ten Commandments, not as a burdensome set of rules, but as God coming to dwell intimately with His people. It is explained that this presence of God’s “word” in our hearts prepares us to receive the perfect indwelling of God’s “Word,” Jesus Christ. The second part of this talk seeks to illuminate each Commandment under the challenges of today’s world and dispel a pervasive myth that the Ten Commandments are no longer “relevant.”
The Catholic Identity Crisis – “Liberal,” “Conservative,” or Something Else? More than 40 years has passed since Vatican II and Catholics are still confused as to what Vatican II said and what it means to be Catholic today. This talk explains the identity and role of the lay Catholic as envisioned in Vatican II documents and suggests how the average “person in the pew” might come to better comprehend and accept “changes” in the Church.
The Catholic “Self-Help” Plan. Long before Zig Ziglar or Oprah, the Catholic Church advocated the means of true “self-help,” aimed at personal sanctification and salvation. This talk discusses the importance of implementing a daily Plan of Life and provides practical tips for its implantation .
Conversion and Confession. A discussion of recognition of sin, repentance, confession and reconciliation as the steps of “true conversion” that results in total transformation of our being – from the inside out.
Everything goes good with Black. This talk dispels many misconceptions concerning priests and explains the beauty that exists in the distinct, yet complementary roles of priest and laity. It seeks to inspire a greater love, admiration, honor and support by the Church for her priests, in light of their duty to humbly embrace the awesome responsibility placed upon them through a life of great prayer, sacrifice and love for all the faithful entrusted to their care.
Faith in the Desert. A discussion of the reality of “highs” and “lows” in the spiritual life, the importance of understanding faith as a decision (as opposed to a mere feeling), and the means for weathering spiritual storms.
The “Joy” of Suffering. While addressing the perennial question of why God allows suffering, this talk suggests that a constant effort to avoid suffering does not make us truly happy and, in fact, leads to greater unhappiness. It offers ways how we might come to accept and even benefit from suffering.
Marriage: What it is and When it Isn’t. Drawing upon the Bible, Catechism, Code of Canon Law, and various papal writings, this talk seeks to provide a deeper understanding of what marriage is – biblically, canonically and spiritually. In the light of this “Catholic definition” of marriage, the process of declaring a marriage invalid is explained; both the reason for the process and how the process works.
The Mass – More than a Homily. This talk challenges people to change open their hearts and minds to a deeper participation in the Mass through an explanation of the Mass as worship, communion, growth and rest.
